About the Role:
The Technical Manager is the pinnacle of technical progression within AMT Engineering. This role involves directing several professional groups engaged in inter-related engineering responsibilities or acting as an engineering consultant.
The Technical Manager independently conceives programs and problems to be investigated, participates in discussions determining basic operating policies, and devises ways of reaching program objectives in the most economical manner. They make responsible proposals on major matters, including the establishment of policies and expenditures of large sums of money, subject only to overall policy and financial controls.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the technical excellence and strategic direction of your discipline. You will manage all technical elements of your discipline, drive best practices through engineering disciplines, and ensure world-class, standardised engineering processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical guidance across multiple project teams, potentially fulfilling Design Responsible Engineer (DRE) roles.
- Actively involved in peer/design reviews of all technically applicable work.
- Ensure design concepts are peer-reviewed by Technical Leadership.
- Mentor engineers and senior engineers within the project team environment.
- Create and update onboarding programs for new starters.
- Create and manage up-to-date skills matrices and action plans for ongoing personal development.
- Create and manage technology and product directions for specific disciplines.
- Work with manufacturing engineering, after-sales, and operations staff to clarify design intent and optimise design for manufacture.
- Ensure the working environment is safe at all times.
- Maintain safety compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
- Eliminate risks in the working environment by conducting housekeeping and risk assessments.
- Report incidents such as near misses, accidents, or equipment damage using the reporting system.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
- Proven technical excellence in a specific engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated technical competence in non-specialist engineering disciplines.
- Proven comprehension of technical/engineering and design principles.
- Demonstrated financial, business, and strategic acumen.
- Proven ability to autonomously manage small to medium projects.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven critical thinking and decision-making skills.
