Position Description

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Trade Assistant provides practical support across the machine shop area to help ensure quality and functionality are achieved within required timeframes. The role is focused on reliable execution of production-related tasks, supporting quality standards, and helping keep equipment and work areas operating effectively.

Key responsibilities include assisting with routine production support activities such as machine and factory cleaning, monitoring and replenishing consumables (including coolant levels and concentration checks), and performing directed processes including deburring and ANCA-related preparation steps where required. The role also includes supporting material movement and component handling into and out of machines, as well as assisting with shot blasting area works and related component support tasks when required.

In addition, the Trade Assistant will support the Bearing Match function by ensuring bearings are available for matched components once triggered, maintaining match/kit supply to forecast, performing quality checks (final visual), and completing tasks such as magnet and rotor gluing and related data entry and stock transfer to allocated locations.

Safety is central to the position. The Trade Assistant is expected to work in a way that maintains a safe workplace at all times, follows PPE requirements, uses equipment and manual handling aids appropriately (including forklift/overhead crane-related activities when licensed and trained), and participates in housekeeping, risk assessments, and safety audits.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be safety-focused, dependable, and able to support production tasks reliably and consistently. You should be comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment, collaborating within a team, and following established instructions and documentation requirements.

  • Demonstrated flexible, “can do” attitude and willingness to support multiple areas as needed.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to apply practical problem-solving and analytical thinking in a production support context.
  • Commitment to quality expectations, including attention to detail and an “eye for quality.”
  • Experience or familiarity with manufacturing/assembly processes (training may be provided for specific procedures).
  • Forklift license and experience using forklift and manual handling aids safely (where applicable and consistent with company policies).
  • Jib/overhead crane experience and understanding of safe lifting/slinging techniques.
  • Basic computer skills and comfort with data entry tasks; basic QAD usage is desirable.
  • Ability to prioritize inventory and kit/match supply requirements based on production needs and forecasts.
  • Strong teamwork and communication within the working group.
  • Ability to self-manage daily workload and prioritize tasks.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

You will be expected to follow safety procedures and operational guidelines while carrying out machine shop and component support tasks. This includes maintaining safe work practices, keeping the work environment clean through ongoing housekeeping and 5S, participating in risk assessments and safety audits, and ensuring PPE is worn correctly when handling hazardous materials.
